Did you know that there are approximately 50 facial muscles? Why is it, I wonder, that we don’t focus more on exercising those muscles, much as we would for the rest of our body?

And, why do we, as massage therapists, tend to focus more on the larger muscles of the body when giving our client a massage? I suppose we have a tendency to get into the mindset that facial massage is only for relaxation and not therapeutic in nature. I have been guilty of this mindset myself, but recently have begun again to incorporate facial massage into my massage sessions, and the response has been outstanding.

Regular facial massage and exercise can actually help prevent sagging and wrinkling by increasing blood flow and circulation—so much more simple and cost effective than cosmetic surgery…don’t you agree?
